Anthropic enables Claude AI processing within India via Amazon Bedrock
AI startup Anthropic has made its Claude language models available for in-country data processing in India through Amazon Web Services' Bedrock service. The move addresses data residency and regulatory compliance requirements for Indian institutions.

Anthropic's Claude artificial intelligence models are now capable of processing user requests and data entirely within Indian borders, the company announced through Amazon Bedrock, AWS's managed service for generative AI applications.
Three versions of Claude are available through the service: Claude Opus 5, Claude Sonnet 5, and Claude Haiku 4.5. The in-country inference capability means data never leaves India during processing, a critical requirement for many regulated sectors including financial services, healthcare, and government agencies.
The development addresses mounting regulatory pressure across South Asia for technology companies to ensure sensitive information remains within national boundaries. Indian regulators and institutions have increasingly mandated data residency requirements as part of broader data protection frameworks.
Amazon Bedrock serves as the infrastructure layer enabling this localized deployment. Regulated institutions and enterprises can now leverage Claude's capabilities while maintaining compliance with India's data governance standards and obtaining stronger assurances about data sovereignty.
The availability through Amazon's established cloud infrastructure positions Claude as a viable option for Indian organizations seeking advanced AI capabilities without compromising on compliance or data residency obligations.
