The anti-corruption watchdog recorded a lengthy statement from Dr. P.B. Jayasundara at his residence in Nikaweratiya on Wednesday as part of its ongoing investigation into the Airbus deal, which has drawn scrutiny over its financial arrangements and procurement process.
Jayasundara, who previously served as both Secretary to the Treasury and Secretary to the President, was questioned for approximately four hours by investigators from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
The Airbus procurement has become a focal point of anti-corruption efforts, with various government bodies examining the transaction's legitimacy and the decision-making processes involved in the acquisition. The extended questioning of senior government figures underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating the matter.
Officials have not yet disclosed details of Jayasundara's responses or the specific aspects of the deal under examination. CIABOC's investigation is expected to continue as authorities seek to establish whether any irregularities occurred during the transaction.
