Anti-Corruption Bureau seizes unaccounted cash from HMWSSB official

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) seized ₹2.4 lakh in unaccounted cash from a senior official of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) on Tuesday, following a lead from an anonymous informant.

According to ACB sources, the agency received a call alleging that the Joint Director had illegally collected funds and was transporting the cash while commuting from office. Acting on the intelligence, ACB teams intercepted the official and conducted a detailed search, which led to the discovery of the substantial amount of unaccounted currency.

The seizure marks another addition to ongoing investigations into financial irregularities within municipal and state-run utilities in Telangana. The ACB has launched a formal inquiry to establish the source of the funds and determine potential violations under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The HMWSSB, which manages water supply and sewerage services across Hyderabad, has faced increased scrutiny in recent months regarding financial management and administrative practices. The agency's leadership is expected to cooperate with the investigation as it progresses.
