Anti-dynasty movement launches Northern Mindanao campaign

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The Dapat Isa Lang (D1L) Movement is set to formally launch its Region 10 operations Wednesday, marking the expansion of a nationwide effort to restrict family-based political control in the Philippines. The campaign seeks to advance a People's Initiative (PI) for legislation that would prevent multiple members of the same family from holding elected positions simultaneously.

The movement aims to unite various civil society groups, professional organizations, and community sectors in Northern Mindanao to advocate for equal access to public office. Organizers argue that consolidating political power within families limits opportunities for qualified candidates outside established political networks and undermines democratic principles.

The People's Initiative route allows citizens to directly propose legislation to Congress through a petition process requiring signatures from at least 12 percent of registered voters. The D1L Movement has been conducting preparatory activities nationwide to build support for this approach to anti-dynasty reform.

The Wednesday gathering in Cagayan de Oro will serve as a platform for the movement to present its advocacy, recruit volunteers, and gather endorsements from the region's organizations and concerned citizens.
