Anuradhapura residents face eight-hour water supply suspension
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board has announced a planned water outage affecting multiple areas of Anuradhapura today to facilitate critical maintenance work at a key treatment facility.

Several districts across Anuradhapura will experience an eight-hour interruption to water supply on September 23, according to an announcement by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWSDB).
The temporary suspension has been scheduled to enable essential maintenance operations at the Kalawewa Water Treatment Plant, a major installation serving the district. The NWSDB stated that the work is necessary to sustain the reliable functioning of the water distribution system.
Residents in affected areas have been advised to make alternative arrangements for their water requirements during the outage period. The board did not immediately specify which specific localities would be impacted by the suspension.
The NWSDB regularly conducts maintenance programmes on its treatment and distribution infrastructure to ensure consistent service delivery across its operational areas. The authority typically provides advance notice of such planned interruptions to allow householders and businesses adequate time to prepare.
