Anwar announces RM1m hawker support package, vows to streamline loans

The Prime Minister made the announcement during a visit to Kajang on November 1, emphasising the government's commitment to supporting small-scale traders and food vendors who operate Malaysia's bustling hawker centres and street stalls.

Anwar highlighted the need to address administrative barriers that have long complicated access to financing for hawkers. He pledged efforts to reduce bureaucratic red tape associated with loan applications, a persistent complaint among vendors who often lack formal business credentials.

The RM1 million allocation is expected to be channelled through the Ministry to provide direct assistance to eligible hawkers. Officials indicated the funds would focus on helping traders manage operational costs and expansion plans.

The announcement reflects broader government efforts to support Malaysia's informal economy, which employs hundreds of thousands and generates significant economic activity across urban and suburban areas. Hawkers have increasingly sought government relief as rising costs and changing consumer habits reshape the sector.
