NEW DELHI, Sept 13 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for a more equitable approach to global financing, emphasising that no country should be forced to choose between repaying debt obligations and meeting the basic needs of its citizens.

Addressing the issue during his visit to India, Anwar highlighted the structural inequalities in the current international financial system that disproportionately affect developing economies. He stressed that such constraints limit governments' ability to invest in critical areas including healthcare, education, and social welfare programmes.

The Prime Minister's remarks reflect growing concerns among regional leaders about the mounting debt burdens faced by many Asian nations, particularly following the economic impacts of recent global disruptions. Anwar advocated for reforms that would provide developing countries with greater fiscal flexibility and more favourable lending terms.

His call for systemic change underscores Malaysia's position on the need for a more inclusive global financial framework that better accommodates the realities and constraints of emerging economies in the region.
