Anwar commits to fair Sarawak revenue formula by Malaysia Day

KOTA KINABALU — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim acknowledged Sarawak's longstanding concerns over resource distribution during discussions in the state capital, committing to develop a clearer framework for calculating the state's fair allocation from the federal government.
The Premier assured Sarawak leadership that his administration would move expeditiously toward formalizing the revenue-sharing arrangement, recognising the state's unique constitutional position and economic contributions. Anwar indicated that an interim measure would be announced ahead of Malaysia Day celebrations on September 16, signalling the government's commitment to addressing the issue promptly.
The commitment represents an effort to strengthen federal-state relations and address historical grievances surrounding resource distribution that have been points of contention in Sarawak-federal relations. The establishment of a clear formula is expected to provide greater certainty for Sarawak's financial planning and development initiatives.
