Anwar defends Bersatu confidence and supply agreement as routine political arrangement

KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Wednesday characterised the confidence and supply agreement (CSA) with Bersatu as a standard political arrangement, comparable to arrangements made under previous administrations. Speaking in the capital, Anwar indicated that such agreements are conventional in Malaysian politics and do not warrant public concern. The Prime Minister referenced the earlier Perikatan Nasional-Barisan Nasional arrangement to underscore that confidence and supply agreements have been utilised by other governments as a governing mechanism. Anwar's comments came as the CSA between his administration and Bersatu continued to draw scrutiny from political observers and the public. The agreement provides parliamentary support necessary for the government to maintain its working majority in the Dewan Rakyat. By contextualising the current arrangement within Malaysia's recent political history, Anwar sought to normalise the partnership and move forward with ongoing legislative priorities.
