Anwar pledges enhanced federal cooperation with Sabah, Sarawak

KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has assured stakeholders of the federal government's dedication to deepening cooperation with Sabah and Sarawak, signalling renewed focus on issues central to the two East Malaysian states ahead of upcoming MA63 consultations.

The pledge underscores efforts to enhance the working relationship between Putrajaya and the state administrations, addressing long-standing concerns regarding implementation of the constitutional agreement that established Malaysia in 1963.

Anwar's assurance comes as the government prepares for substantive discussions on matters affecting the two states, including revenue sharing, immigration autonomy, and other provisions outlined in the MA63 framework.

The commitment reflects the federal government's recognition of the strategic importance of maintaining harmonious relations with Sabah and Sarawak, whose support remains crucial for political stability and national cohesion.

Official meetings between federal representatives and the state governments are expected to address specific grievances and explore mechanisms for improved coordination on matters of mutual concern.
