KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has urged both federal and state administrations to deepen their collaborative efforts through the implementation of a National Covenant framework, emphasising the need for unified action in addressing national priorities.

The framework is designed to establish clearer guidelines and mechanisms for cooperation between Putrajaya and state capitals, ensuring more cohesive policy implementation across the country's diverse jurisdictions. Anwar's call comes as the government seeks to streamline decision-making processes and improve service delivery to Malaysians.

Under the proposed structure, both levels of government would work within a coordinated system to tackle key issues ranging from economic development to infrastructure and social welfare. Officials have indicated that the covenant would establish benchmarks for inter-governmental relations while respecting the constitutional autonomy of state governments.

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by the federal government to improve governance efficiency and create a more integrated approach to national development challenges. State leaders are expected to be consulted during the framework's development phase to ensure buy-in from all stakeholders.
