Anwar, Putin agree to fast-track Malaysia-Russia bilateral deals

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Russian President Vladimir Putin have committed to establishing a dedicated mechanism to expedite bilateral deals and strengthen economic ties between Malaysia and Russia.

The agreement was formalised during a bilateral meeting between the two leaders in New Delhi, reflecting both nations' desire to deepen their partnership across multiple sectors.

The new framework is expected to streamline processes for trade negotiations and investment projects, removing bureaucratic bottlenecks that have previously hindered closer cooperation. The mechanism will facilitate dialogue between relevant ministries and government agencies from both countries.

Malaysia and Russia have historically maintained diplomatic relations, though economic engagement has remained relatively modest compared to the countries' potential. The establishment of this fast-track mechanism signals renewed political commitment to unlock fresh opportunities in trade, energy, technology, and other sectors of mutual interest.
