KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim suggested Thursday that Budget 2027 may address the financial hardships faced by tertiary students, particularly those struggling with basic necessities such as food.

While stopping short of announcing specific commitments, Anwar indicated the government's awareness of the challenges confronting university-age Malaysians and signalled openness to budgetary interventions in the coming fiscal year.

The premier also used the occasion to call on Malaysia's youth to assume greater responsibility in leading national progress, emphasising their crucial role in shaping the country's future trajectory.

The remarks come amid ongoing discussions within government circles regarding educational support mechanisms and youth development initiatives. Officials have previously acknowledged rising concerns about student welfare across Malaysian universities, with food security emerging as a notable concern among lower-income cohorts.
