Anwar urges deeper Malaysia-India tech cooperation in semiconductors
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for Malaysia and India to strengthen bilateral ties in the electrical and electronics sector and semiconductor manufacturing. The push comes as both nations seek to expand their footprint in critical technology industries amid regional competition.

Anwar made the appeal during an engagement in Kerala, highlighting the potential for enhanced synergy between the two countries in high-value manufacturing segments. The Prime Minister emphasised that closer collaboration in semiconductors and electrical and electronics production could unlock significant economic benefits for both Malaysia and India.
The initiative reflects Malaysia's broader strategy to position itself as a key player in semiconductor supply chains and advanced electronics manufacturing. India has similarly prioritised building domestic capabilities in these sectors as part of its economic diversification efforts.
Bilateral cooperation in technology and manufacturing aligns with both nations' development agendas and could include knowledge transfer, investment partnerships, and shared research initiatives. The semiconductor sector, in particular, has emerged as strategically important following global supply chain disruptions in recent years.
Malaysia has long been a significant hub for electronics manufacturing in Southeast Asia, while India has been ramping up its semiconductor ambitions through government support and private sector investments.
