Apple iPhone Duo Launch Faces Supply Constraints, Grey-Market Surge in India
Apple's iPhone Duo is expected to see severely limited availability when sales commence on October 23, with only 6,000 units anticipated for the opening week in India. The supply shortage has already driven unofficial sellers to demand premiums exceeding Rs 50,000 above the official retail price of Rs 2,99,900.

Apple's highly anticipated iPhone Duo launch in India is set to be hampered by significant supply shortages, prompting a surge in grey-market activity even before formal sales begin. The company is expected to have just 6,000 units available during the first week of sales starting October 23, a constraint that has already sparked demand from eager buyers willing to pay substantial markups through unofficial channels.
Grey-market dealers are reportedly capitalizing on the limited stock by charging premiums of up to Rs 50,000 above the manufacturer's suggested retail price of Rs 2,99,900. This represents a markup of approximately 17 percent, reflecting the acute scarcity of the dual-screen device in the Indian market ahead of its official launch.
The supply constraints underscore challenges in meeting initial demand for the innovative foldable device in one of Apple's key markets. Similar shortages have plagued other premium Apple product launches in India, often driven by limited production capacity and logistical constraints in getting inventory to regional markets.
Apple has not publicly commented on the supply limitations or provided details on inventory levels for subsequent weeks. The company's authorized retail partners are expected to receive stock allocations following the initial sales period, though no timeline for expanded availability has been announced.
