Apple Pay is now accessible to customers across India, allowing users to add their eligible bank cards to their Apple devices for quick, contactless payments at supported merchants. The digital wallet service integrates with iPhones, iPads, and Apple Watches, enabling secure transactions through near-field communication technology.
To set up Apple Pay, users need to open the Wallet app on their device and add their card by entering card details or using their device's camera. The service works with participating banks and card issuers, though not all cards may be supported at launch. Users should verify with their respective banks regarding eligibility and any specific requirements for activation.
Security remains a central feature of Apple Pay in India. The service uses tokenization technology, which means actual card details are not shared with merchants. Instead, transactions are authorized using a unique device-specific number and security code generated for each payment. Users must authenticate purchases through Face ID, Touch ID, or their device passcode, adding an additional layer of protection.
The platform does not charge users fees for basic transactions, though individual banks may have their own terms and conditions. Apple Pay works at merchant terminals displaying the contactless payment symbol, making it compatible with India's existing payment infrastructure. As adoption grows, the number of supported cards and participating banks is expected to expand, broadening access across the Indian market.
