Apple Pay has become available to Indian consumers, marking the technology giant's entry into the country's digital payments landscape. The service allows iPhone users to add eligible payment cards to their devices and conduct contactless transactions at compatible merchants.

The launch comes with restrictions on participating financial institutions. Currently, only Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards are supported on the platform, limiting the immediate user base. Industry analysts expect Apple to expand partnerships with additional banks and card issuers as the service gains traction.

The move reflects Apple's broader strategy to strengthen its presence in India's rapidly growing fintech sector. Digital payments have surged across the country in recent years, driven by increased smartphone adoption and government initiatives promoting cashless transactions.

Users seeking to activate Apple Pay on their iPhones can add eligible cards directly through the Wallet app. The service leverages near-field communication technology to enable secure, contactless payments at retail outlets, restaurants, and other merchant locations equipped with compatible payment terminals.

Apple's entry follows similar launches by international digital wallet providers seeking to capitalize on India's expanding mobile payments market, which has seen explosive growth in transaction volumes and consumer adoption rates over the past five years.
