The incident occurred on the Kakinada-Visakhapatnam route when the driver experienced severe cardiac distress while operating the intercity bus. Despite the sudden medical emergency, the driver retained enough presence of mind to navigate the vehicle off the highway and bring it to a safe stop near Tuni in Andhra Pradesh.

Passengers on board the bus were initially unaware of the gravity of the situation until the driver collapsed at the wheel immediately after securing the vehicle. Emergency responders were alerted to the scene, and the driver was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation, which operates one of India's largest bus fleets, confirmed the incident. Officials commended the driver's professionalism in prioritising passenger safety during a life-threatening medical emergency.

The incident highlights both the risks faced by professional drivers and the critical importance of quick decision-making in preventing larger tragedies on crowded roadways.
