MANILA — The Aquino family observed All Souls' Day on Monday with a solemn visit to their mausoleum in Parañaque City's Manila Memorial Park, where relatives gathered to honor deceased family members including former presidents Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. and Corazon Aquino, as well as former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.
Civil society leader Kiko Aquino Dee joined his parents, Viel Aquino Dee and Richard Dee, in lighting yellow candles and offering prayers at the family burial site. The yellow color carries symbolic significance in the Philippines, associated with the Aquino family's legacy in the nation's democratic movement.
The All Souls' Day commemoration reflected the Aquino family's continued prominence in Philippine society more than three decades after Ninoy Aquino's assassination in 1983, which catalyzed the People Power Revolution that toppled the Marcos regime. The mausoleum visit brought together family members and supporters to reflect on the legacies of the departed Aquino leaders.
Beyond immediate family, the gathering drew other Filipinos keen to pay their respects at the burial site, underscoring the lasting public interest in the Aquino family's historical role in Philippine democratic and civil society development.
