The 'Portrait of a Lady,' a late-baroque work, disappeared for approximately 80 years before being spotted in photographs accompanying a real estate listing for a house near Buenos Aires. The painting's identification came after researchers cross-referenced property images with records of missing artworks seized during the Nazi era.
The repatriation agreement reflects growing international cooperation in locating and returning cultural artifacts taken during World War II. Families of the painting's original owners have been identified, and arrangements are underway to complete the transfer.
