COTABATO CITY — Military officials have denounced what they characterized as an unprovoked attack that claimed the lives of two Army personnel in the Bangsamoro region.
The shooting incident took place Wednesday evening along the national highway in Barangay Ladia, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao del Norte. Brig. Gen. Ricky Bunayog, acting commander of the Army's 6th Infantry Division (Kampilan) and Joint Task Force Central, issued the military's statement condemning the attack on Thursday.
The 6th Infantry Division, responsible for military operations across the Soccsksargen and Bangsamoro regions, did not immediately provide details on the circumstances surrounding the incident or identify the victims. The attack underscores ongoing security challenges in Mindanao's restive provinces, where military and law enforcement personnel face persistent threats from armed groups.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the ambush. Military authorities said they were investigating the incident to determine the perpetrators and motive behind the attack.
