Arsenal's title credentials were on display at Anfield as they secured a hard-fought victory against Liverpool, providing an immediate response to their shock League Cup elimination. The Gunners had endured a damaging midweek upset when fourth-tier Fleetwood Town knocked them out on penalties, raising questions about their mental fortitude during a crucial period of the season.
The 1-0 result in Merseyside served as a timely reminder of Arsenal's competitive quality, demonstrating that the cup disappointment had not fundamentally undermined their confidence. The win suggests Arteta's squad possesses the character to recover from setbacks and maintain their challenge across multiple fronts.
For Arsenal's rivals in the title race, the performance at Anfield would have provided an uncomfortable message: despite the Fleetwood humiliation, the north London club remains a formidable opponent. The ability to bounce back with a victory of substance against a fellow top-six side indicates the depth and resolve within the Arsenal setup as the campaign enters a critical phase.
