Arshdeep Singh undeterred by limited first-class experience in Test pursuit

Arshdeep Singh acknowledges that his relatively sparse first-class cricket resume may not represent conventional preparation for Test cricket, yet he maintains that the gap between his appearances does not diminish his readiness for India's longest format.

Having made his first-class debut in December 2019, the Punjab-born pace bowler has featured in just 24 matches in the format. His most recent outings came during the ongoing Duleep Trophy season, where he played matches 23 and 24 for North Zone before the team's semifinal elimination. Prior to the Duleep Trophy, Arshdeep had endured nearly a year without first-class cricket.

"I do everything that is within my control to be ready for the Test call-up," Arshdeep said in an exclusive interaction. While acknowledging that extended gaps in first-class matches may not constitute ideal preparation, he emphasised his focus remains on maximising opportunities when they arise.

Already established as one of India's premier pace options in limited-overs cricket, Arshdeep has sought to leverage his Duleep Trophy appearance to strengthen his Test credentials. He has since joined his domestic side, Ludhiana Lions, continuing his pursuit of consistent red-ball exposure.

The pacer's determination reflects the challenges faced by many modern Indian cricketers balancing their white-ball commitments with the development pathway required for Test selection.
