Arts students bring creative tribute to dementia patients in Singapore

Students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and Henry Chua's Initiative (HCI) have developed a series of creative performances at Jurong Community Hospital designed to celebrate the stories and experiences of dementia patients. The interdisciplinary initiative brings together aspiring artists and healthcare advocates to create meaningful tributes through performance art.

The project represents an innovative approach to patient care, combining artistic practice with clinical settings to improve the wellbeing of those living with dementia. By drawing on patient narratives and life experiences, the student performers crafted works that honour the individuals under their care while raising awareness about the condition.

The collaboration between NAFA and HCI demonstrates how creative disciplines can complement traditional healthcare approaches. The performances served as both a celebration of patient dignity and a platform for students to engage meaningfully with vulnerable populations in the community.

Jurong Community Hospital, which serves a significant portion of Singapore's western population, has increasingly incorporated arts-based initiatives into its therapeutic programmes. The project aligns with growing recognition of how creative engagement can enhance quality of life for patients with neurodegenerative conditions.
