Arunachal Pradesh capital hit by shutdown over education infrastructure crisis

Itanagar, the capital of Arunachal Pradesh, witnessed widespread disruption on Tuesday as a shutdown call over the poor state of educational infrastructure gripped the region. The agitation, which extended to adjoining areas, resulted in the closure of shops, offices and educational institutions, with minimal traffic movement reported throughout the day.

The protest action centred on demands for immediate improvements to school facilities across the state. Organisers cited persistent issues including inadequate classroom infrastructure, lack of basic amenities and insufficient learning resources as key grievances driving the shutdown.

While the shutdown largely remained peaceful, authorities reported some isolated instances of unrest. A handful of incidents involving vehicle damage and minor scuffles were documented in different parts of the capital, though no major law and order situation was reported.

Police maintained a visible presence across Itanagar to monitor the situation and prevent any escalation of tensions. Officials appealed for restraint from protesters while assuring that the concerns regarding educational infrastructure would be examined at appropriate levels.

The shutdown underscores growing public frustration over the quality of educational facilities in the northeastern state, with parents and students increasingly vocal about the need for substantial infrastructure investment in schools.
