Malaysia believes regional haze issues are best tackled through established Asean diplomatic mechanisms rather than unilateral action, according to Foreign Minister Mohamad.
The minister indicated that Malaysia's natural resources and environmental sustainability ministry will submit an official letter to the Asean Secretariat to formally raise the matter through regional channels.
The stance reflects Malaysia's commitment to addressing transboundary pollution through multilateral cooperation within the Asean framework. The region has long struggled with periodic haze episodes, largely attributed to land-clearing fires in neighboring countries during dry seasons.
By routing the matter through the Asean Secretariat, Malaysia aims to engage all member states in finding sustainable solutions to the environmental challenge that regularly affects air quality across Southeast Asia.
