Asian Games organiser defends accommodation standards as complaints mount

Hideaki Omura, heading the Asian Games organising body, defended the accommodation arrangements on Wednesday, emphasising that efforts are underway to address athlete concerns. The official stated that while the rooms are designed to be functional rather than luxurious, organisers remain committed to ensuring competitors have adequate comfort during their stay.
Several national delegations have raised objections about the quality and amenities in the athlete housing complex in recent days. Complaints have ranged from basic furnishings to concerns about space and facilities, prompting questions about whether organisers adequately prepared accommodation for the sprawling international event.
Omura acknowledged the feedback and indicated that the organising committee is actively working to resolve grievances raised by teams. He characterised the rooms as purpose-built for the Games, designed to meet essential requirements rather than provide resort-style comfort.
The accommodation issue represents a significant challenge for organisers of one of Asia's largest multi-sport events. Officials have faced mounting pressure to improve conditions and restore confidence among competing nations as the Games progress.
