Asian share markets struggled to find momentum in early trading as participants adopted a cautious stance pending developments on Iranian sanctions. The lack of clear direction reflected broader uncertainty about the policy implications for regional energy markets and global trade flows.
Brent crude oil futures slipped 1.0 percent to US$93.43 a barrel, with traders assessing the impact of ongoing tensions centred on the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global petroleum supplies. Tehran has shown no indication of ceding its position in the strategically vital waterway, sustaining concerns about potential disruptions to energy shipments.
Market participants were also keeping a close eye on corporate earnings, with technology giant Nvidia's results expected to influence investor sentiment across regional bourses. The semiconductor sector remains a bellwether for broader economic growth expectations in Asia, particularly given the region's heavy exposure to technology-driven demand.
Analysts noted that trading volumes remained subdued as investors preferred to stay on the sidelines until key policy decisions and earnings announcements provided greater clarity on near-term market direction. The combination of geopolitical uncertainty and corporate earnings updates was likely to drive volatility through the week ahead.
