Assam authorities have apprehended infiltrators attempting to cross into Indian territory in Dhubri district, with the detainees subsequently handed over to the Border Security Force for further processing, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed.
Dhubri is among several Assamese districts maintaining direct contact with Bangladesh across the international frontier. The state's four border districts—Sribhumi, Cachar, Dhubri, and South Salmara-Mankachar—collectively oversee approximately 267.5 kilometers of the Indo-Bangladesh boundary.
The apprehensions reflect sustained challenges faced by Indian security agencies in managing cross-border movement along one of Asia's longest international land borders. The region has historically witnessed irregular migration and smuggling activities, necessitating continuous vigilance by frontier forces.
The BSF, tasked with guarding India's international boundaries, regularly coordinates with state administration to strengthen border security infrastructure and prevent unauthorized crossings.
