Assam, Bengal to collaborate on restoration of Madhupur Satra monastery

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has initiated dialogue with West Bengal authorities to jointly undertake restoration work on the Madhupur Satra, a centuries-old Vaishnavite monastery located in Cooch Behar. The initiative reflects growing inter-state cooperation on heritage preservation in the northeastern region.

The Chief Minister proposed that a delegation from West Bengal visit the Batadrava Than in Assam to explore collaborative approaches to monastery restoration projects. This exchange of expertise and resources is intended to facilitate knowledge-sharing between the two states on conservation methodologies and funding mechanisms.

The Madhupur Satra holds considerable religious and historical significance for followers of the Assamese Vaishnavite tradition. Its restoration is expected to benefit both the religious community and local heritage tourism. The project underscores the growing recognition among state governments in South Asia of the need for coordinated efforts in preserving shared cultural and religious monuments.
