Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has underscored the significance of the Assam Bhavan project in Bengaluru as a means to deepen ties between Assam and Karnataka. The state edifice, when completed, is expected to function as a cultural and administrative center, facilitating enhanced coordination and cooperation between the two regional governments.
The construction of Assam Bhavan was initiated in 2016 but faced considerable delays due to administrative complications involving the Karnataka government's Revenue Department. These bureaucratic hurdles stalled progress on the project for several years, preventing the completion of what officials view as an important interstate infrastructure.
State bhavans, or regional offices, typically serve as cultural ambassadors and administrative nexuses for states operating across India's major metropolitan centers. The Bengaluru facility is expected to host cultural events, facilitate business interactions, and provide support services to Assamese citizens and organizations in Karnataka.
Sarma's comments reflect efforts by the Assam government to revitalize the stalled project and move toward its completion. The push comes as several states maintain dedicated offices in major Indian cities to strengthen interstate relations and promote regional interests at the national level.
