The Assam government has successfully cleared encroachments spanning 638 hectares of land across three districts as part of an ongoing anti-encroachment campaign, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Tuesday. The eviction drives, which targeted illegally occupied government property, have been completed with the involvement of multiple administrative agencies across the affected districts.
Sarma emphasized that the state administration remains committed to safeguarding Assam's interests by systematically recovering public land that had been unlawfully occupied. The operations represent part of a broader policy initiative to reclaim government property and ensure transparent land management across the state.
The three-district eviction campaign reflects intensified efforts by the state government to tackle land encroachment, a persistent challenge in Assam. Officials said the recovered land would be documented and its utilization would be determined according to state development priorities and public interest considerations.
The anti-encroachment operations have been conducted in coordination with local revenue authorities, forest departments, and law enforcement agencies. The government indicated that similar exercises would continue in other parts of the state to prevent further unauthorized occupation of public property.
