Law enforcement officials in Assam detained 36 nationals from Bangladesh at Dhubri ferry ghat following their illegal entry into Indian territory. The apprehension came after police intercepted the group, which had reportedly crossed the India-Bangladesh international border in Meghalaya before proceeding further into Assam.
According to initial investigations, the Bangladeshi nationals had utilised the porous border region in Meghalaya to gain unauthorized entry into India. They subsequently moved towards Assam, where they were discovered at the ferry ghat in Dhubri district.
The detentions are part of ongoing efforts by Assam Police to monitor and prevent illegal cross-border movement along the Indo-Bangladesh frontier. The state shares a 262-kilometre border with Bangladesh, which has remained a concern for security and immigration authorities in recent years.
The detained individuals are currently under police custody pending further investigations into the circumstances of their entry and intended destination within India. Officials have launched a detailed inquiry to determine if the group was part of a larger human trafficking operation or other organized movement across the border.
