Asset freeze lift insufficient for Najib's RM50 million fine: son

The lifting of an asset freeze will not be enough to cover a RM50 million fine imposed on former prime minister Najib Razak, according to his son Nizar Najib. In a statement, Nizar acknowledged that substantial additional steps must be taken to accumulate the required sum. "A lot more needs to be done," he said, indicating the family's ongoing efforts to settle the financial obligation. The announcement came as members of the public have contributed over RM36,000 towards the fine through voluntary donations. Nizar expressed gratitude to those who have provided financial support, highlighting the community's involvement in assisting the family during the process. The RM50 million fine relates to legal proceedings against the elder Najib, with the asset freeze previously serving as a measure during those proceedings. The timing of the asset freeze's removal coincides with intensified fundraising efforts to meet the outstanding penalty.
