Astrologers Clarify: Roof Construction Permissible During Pitripaksh Period

Contrary to popular belief among some Hindu households, construction work on residential roofs or lintels during Pitripaksh does not incur ancestral affliction, according to scholars versed in classical Hindu texts and astrology.

The misconception that such construction activities during this sacred fortnight—traditionally observed for performing shraddh rituals and honouring deceased ancestors—invites spiritual consequences has no scriptural basis, experts clarified. Those who refrain from such work during this period are operating under a misunderstanding rather than following established dharmic principles.

Astrologers recommend that homeowners exercise caution only regarding Panchak, an inauspicious five-day planetary configuration considered unsuitable for construction activities. This restriction applies throughout the year, independent of the Pitripaksh calendar.

Householders undertaking building projects should not postpone or halt construction during the ancestral fortnight solely due to fears of incurring pitru dosha, or ancestral debt. Religious observances and property development can proceed concurrently without spiritual conflict, according to traditional interpretation of Hindu scriptures.
