Athens transforms defunct airport into Europe's second-largest urban park

Athens is preparing to unveil Ellinikon Park, an ambitious urban renewal initiative that will convert a decommissioned airport into a vast recreational and environmental asset. The project, scheduled for completion next year, will create Europe's second-largest metropolitan park with approximately 70 percent green coverage.

The park design prioritises environmental sustainability through multiple complementary features.
