Attappady tribal hospital to expand with NABARD-backed newborn care unit

A new specialized block will be constructed at Attappady hospital to address critical gaps in maternal and newborn healthcare services, according to Kerala's Health Minister. The facility will feature dedicated newborn care units and an emergency operation theatre, significantly expanding the hospital's capacity to handle complex medical cases.

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) will provide financial assistance for the construction project, ensuring the tribal population in the region gains access to advanced medical facilities. The initiative reflects efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in remote and underserved areas of the state.

The expansion is expected to enable the hospital to recruit additional specialist doctors across various departments, addressing the current shortage of medical professionals in the region. Enhanced emergency services and neonatal intensive care capabilities will reduce the need for tribal residents to travel to distant medical centers for critical treatments.

Attappady, located in Palakkad district, has long faced healthcare accessibility challenges due to its geographical terrain and limited medical infrastructure. This development marks a significant step toward bringing quality healthcare services closer to the tribal communities residing in the area.
