Australia forces Roblox to strengthen child safety measures via court order

Australia's Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has obtained a court-enforceable undertaking from Roblox Corporation to enhance child safety measures on its platform, one of the world's most popular online gaming destinations.

The move came after regulatory testing demonstrated that despite safety mechanisms already in place, adult users could still establish contact with child users on the platform. The findings raised concerns about the effectiveness of existing protections against grooming and sexual exploitation.

Under the undertaking, Roblox has committed to implementing stronger safeguards designed to prevent inappropriate contact between adults and minors. The company will be required to regularly review and improve its safety features, with compliance subject to court enforcement.

The enforcement action reflects growing regulatory scrutiny of major gaming and social platforms over child safety. Authorities across the Asia-Pacific region have increasingly pressured technology companies to demonstrate robust protections against exploitation and harmful content.

Roblox, which hosts hundreds of millions of users globally including significant numbers of young players, faces mounting demands to prove its safety systems can effectively shield children from predatory behaviour while maintaining platform usability.
