Australia's disciplined bowling attack dismantled South Africa's first-innings batting lineup on day three of the Test in South Africa on Sunday. Captain Pat Cummins was the standout performer with figures of 3-54, while Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon each claimed two wickets. Starc took 2-63, Hazlewood finished with 2-54 and Lyon captured 2-58 as the home side collapsed to 284.
The Australian batting unit had earlier provided the platform for this commanding position, amassing 390 runs in their opening innings. Opener Matt Renshaw's unbeaten 190 proved instrumental in the recovery, particularly after Australia had found themselves in a precarious position at 124-6. His career-best innings guided the visitors to a competitive total that would ultimately prove decisive.
South Africa's first-innings total was kept from being even more depleted by a resilient 52-run ninth-wicket partnership. David Bedingham led the home batting effort with 49 runs off 73 balls, while Keshav Maharaj contributed 34 and Simon Harmer remained unbeaten on 35 to provide some resistance as the hosts were reduced to 197-8 at one stage.
With Australia batting again, the visitors reached 33 without loss in 5.4 overs by the close of play. Nic Maddinson (17 not out) and Travis Head (10 not out) were at the crease when stumps were called early due to poor lighting, with nearly 13 overs lost to weather conditions during the day.
