Lake Kepwari, located near Collie in Western Australia, represents a successful example of industrial site remediation and landscape restoration. The lake was created by filling the void left behind when a coal mine ceased operations in 1997, with engineers diverting water from the Collie River South Branch to fill the expansive pit. The project required substantial planning and infrastructure development to transform the former mining site into a viable recreational resource.
The artificial lake now spans 103 hectares and holds approximately 30 billion litres of water, making it a significant water body in the region.
