Australian couple's 22-year castle project still awaits completion

Christina Kent and Francis Shepherd embarked on their unconventional journey in the early 2000s when they chose to delay their wedding plans to focus on constructing Castle Phoenix on their Tasmanian property. The ambitious couple have invested over two decades in the sprawling structure, which reaches a height of 17 metres and features design plans for 27 rooms.

The castle construction project has consumed approximately 100,000 bricks to date, yet significant portions remain incomplete. Of the eight turrets envisioned in the original design, only three have been finished, reflecting the slow pace of progress on the labour-intensive undertaking.

The couple have encountered numerous obstacles throughout their extended construction timeline, including financial constraints and health-related challenges that have repeatedly interrupted their work schedule. Despite these setbacks, Kent and Shepherd have remained committed to their vision, continuing to work on the property whenever circumstances permit.

Their wedding ceremony, originally scheduled years ago, remains on indefinite hold as the couple prioritize the completion of their dream residence. The castle project has become a reflection of their determination and unconventional approach to life priorities, though the final completion date remains uncertain.
