An Austrian diplomatic official has returned a stolen painting to Jackie Sondell, whose grandfather Eduard Epstein was persecuted and imprisoned by the Nazi regime in Vienna during World War II. The miniature artwork, confiscated from Epstein's collection in 1940, was traced by the Austrian government and delivered to Sondell, who resides in Minnesota.
Epstein's collection was systematically seized during his detention, with many works disappearing into the fog of wartime displacement.
