Authorities probe individuals behind resurfaced video allegedly insulting Rukun Negara

PUTRAJAYA — Authorities have intensified their investigation into individuals linked to a video clip from 2018 that has recently circulated on social media platforms and is alleged to contain insulting references to the Rukun Negara, Malaysia's national principles.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in coordination with the Royal Malaysian Police, has identified several social media users involved in the distribution and creation of the controversial content. The collaborative investigation aims to determine the full scope of involvement and potential violations of existing legislation regarding online conduct.

The resurfacing of the video has raised concerns about respect for national symbols and values. Authorities have stated that all individuals identified will be subject to investigation under relevant laws governing online conduct and public order.

The MCMC has urged the public to exercise responsibility when sharing content online and to refrain from posting material that could be perceived as disrespectful to national institutions and foundational principles. Investigators are continuing their efforts to trace additional accounts that may have contributed to the video's wider distribution across social platforms.
