Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Armizan Mohd Ali said the ministry's jurisdiction in the investigation of the poultry slaughtering premises in Puchong centers on halal labeling compliance for products sold at the retail level.
The facility's operations have drawn scrutiny from both the ministry and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais), which oversee different aspects of halal standards and religious requirements respectively.
Authorities are examining whether products from the premises have been properly certified and labeled as halal before reaching consumers. The investigation comes as regulators intensify efforts to ensure compliance with halal standards across the food supply chain.
The probe underscores ongoing concerns about unlicensed food processing operations and the importance of maintaining halal integrity in Malaysia's poultry industry. Both agencies are expected to coordinate their findings to determine whether violations occurred and what enforcement action may be warranted.
