Authorities seize 170 kg of adulterated ghee at Andhra Pradesh dairy

Regulatory authorities in Ongole, Andhra Pradesh, have seized approximately 170 kilograms of ghee suspected to contain palm oil and vanaspati—a hydrogenated vegetable oil—from a dairy operating in the district. The action follows an inspection that uncovered evidence of adulteration at the facility.

According to officials, the dairy was engaged in large-scale distribution of the product, supplying it to hotels, hostels and biryani outlets in the locality. Preliminary investigations indicate the operation was moving around 3,000 kilograms of the product monthly, suggesting significant consumer exposure to the suspected adulteration.

Samples from the seized stock have been forwarded to a laboratory in Chennai for detailed analysis and confirmation of the alleged adulteration. The findings will determine the extent of violations and guide further enforcement action against the establishment.

Food safety officials have intensified checks on dairy products and edible oils across the region following the seizure. Consumers are advised to purchase ghee only from licensed vendors and verify product authenticity through proper certification channels.
