CALAPAN CITY — A shipment of 20 pigs has been seized by authorities in Occidental Mindoro after the animals were found to lack proper documentation and health certificates. The livestock was intercepted Sunday when unloaded from a boat along the coast of Barangay Sibalat in Magsaysay town, according to the municipal agriculture office.

The discovery was made following a tip-off from concerned residents who reported the suspected unauthorized shipment. Municipal authorities conducted an inspection and determined that the pigs originated from another province and had not been cleared with the required transport and health documents needed for inter-provincial movement.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the informal movement of livestock across regions, which poses potential risks to animal health and local farming industries. The municipal agriculture office did not immediately disclose the disposition of the seized animals or whether charges would be filed against those responsible for the shipment.
