Authorities seize counterfeit liquor worth ₹11.55 lakh in Maharashtra

Authorities in Maharashtra have seized counterfeit liquor valued at ₹11.55 lakh in coordinated raids across Pune and Ahmednagar districts. The operation, conducted ahead of the festive season, targeted illegal storage and distribution networks dealing in spurious foreign alcohol brands.

The action was initiated based on credible intelligence regarding counterfeit foreign liquor being stockpiled at Bangarwadi, a hamlet in Junnar taluka, for unauthorized sale in the market. Law enforcement agencies moved swiftly to intercept the contraband before it could reach consumers.

The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by regional authorities to combat the proliferation of fake alcoholic beverages, which pose significant health and safety risks. Such operations are particularly intensified during festival periods when consumer demand for premium liquor increases sharply.

Investigations are underway to identify the distribution network and individuals involved in the manufacturing and trafficking of counterfeit spirits. The recovered stock has been secured for further examination and legal proceedings.
