Authorities seize over P1 million in illegal mineral ores in Zamboanga del Sur

PAGADIAN CITY – A joint team of environment and police authorities conducted separate operations that resulted in the interception of illegal mineral ores valued at over P1 million in Barangay Dulop, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur, according to a police report released Wednesday.

The most recent seizure occurred Tuesday afternoon at approximately 2:50 p.m. when law enforcement officials stopped a 10-wheeler truck carrying the contraband materials. The operation was part of an ongoing campaign that commenced last week to combat illegal mining operations in the area.

Authorities have not yet disclosed specific details regarding the composition of the seized mineral ores or the identities of those involved in the suspected illegal mining operation. The case remains under investigation as police and environmental agencies continue to coordinate efforts against unlicensed mining activities.

The confiscation underscores renewed enforcement action against illegal mining operations in Mindanao, where unregulated resource extraction has long posed environmental and economic concerns. Authorities have intensified patrols and checkpoints to prevent the transportation and sale of illegally extracted minerals.
