Auto unions plan fresh protests after fruitless government talks

Representatives from the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising auto-rickshaw and app-based cab drivers concluded talks with government officials without reaching any resolution, prompting the unions to prepare for renewed demonstrations. The leadership expressed dissatisfaction with the government's approach during the negotiations, viewing the administration's stance as an attempt to stall meaningful progress on their demands. Union officials indicated that the perceived lack of seriousness from the government's side had left them with little choice but to resort to agitation as a pressure tactic. The JAC, which represents multiple driver organizations across the taxi and ride-hailing sectors, had engaged with authorities hoping to address longstanding grievances affecting the livelihoods of thousands of drivers. With talks proving inconclusive, the unions are now mobilizing members for a fresh round of protests to push for substantive negotiations and implementation of their charter of demands.
