Aviation fuel, commercial cooking gas prices surge amid global cost pressures

Aviation turbine fuel prices climbed to ₹138.50 per litre from ₹137.12 per litre effective Sunday, marking the fourth consecutive monthly increase in jet fuel costs. The latest hike reflects sustained upward pressure on international crude oil benchmarks, with ATF prices now significantly higher than their levels just three months ago.

The escalating fuel costs pose a mounting challenge for India's aviation sector, where jet fuel typically accounts for up to 40 per cent of airline operating expenses. Airlines have already absorbed three previous price increases totalling ₹27.28 per litre since August, with a particularly steep ₹16 per litre jump implemented on October 1.

Concurrently, state-owned oil firms raised commercial LPG rates—the cooking gas used widely in hotels, restaurants and catering establishments—by ₹10 per 19-kilogram cylinder to ₹2,820. This marks the second straight month of increases in commercial liquefied petroleum gas pricing, signalling persistent commodity cost pressures across energy markets.

The dual price adjustments underscore how international energy market movements continue to ripple through India's domestic economy, affecting both transportation costs and hospitality sector operations during a period of global economic uncertainty.
